Pod Leader

Under the supervision of the Camp Director and/or the Assistant Camp Director, the responsibility of a Pod Leader is to coordinate all aspects of a high quality, safety centered and HCRR program that best serves our Sherman Lake YMCA community. As part of the camp team, a Pod Leader will carry out responsibilities in accordance with the established operating policies and procedures of the YMCA, ACA and county, state and federal agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Pod Leader’s must be a minimum of 18 years old and available Monday - Friday beginning Tuesday September 8, 2020. Applicant must be able to attain CPR & First Aid certification (training provided), along with lifeguard certification unless exempted by the Camp Director

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Serve as Pod Leader for pod of 8 -10 scholars

  • Set up pod community using a Community Commitment, team building activities and HCRR deck to create a safe learning environment

  • Promote the academic learning of each scholar by assisting with technology needs and problem solving alongside scholars with online school work

  • Set up and facilitate all camp programs such as climbing, archery, fire building, kayaking or canoeing, orienteering, nature and art - training provided

  • Adhere to all COVID-19 safety procedures (examples include, but are not limited to mask wearing, social distancing when able and hand washing/sanitizing) and sanitation practices of classroom, activity spaces and equipment.

  • Use positive behavior management techniques to approach conflict resolution

  • Promote character development and social emotional learning in program delivery

  • Recognize scholars and participants for their personal growth, exemplary behavior and skill attainment

  • Take responsibility and demonstrate keeping Sherman Lake YMCA Outdoor Center ‘like new forever’

  • Attend mandatory staff training and professional development sessions

  • Other duties as assigned - be flexible - camp is often unpredictable and there will be times when you will be requested to help in addition to your principal activities

COMPENSATION: $15 per hour
