Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance is available at the Sherman Lake YMCA. Applying is easy and confidential. The registration process and acceptance process are separate. Scholarships are offered for one week of camp/child/summer.

1. APPLY FOR CAMP

Register for camp online. Please make sure to indicate you are interested in Scholarships/ Financial Assistance. (There will be a checkbox during the application process.) No deposit is required at time of registration.

2. FILL OUT THE SCHOLARSHIP FORMS

After you've completed your child's camp registration, complete our scholarship forms (found in your registration account). The forms can be downloaded or completed online and returned to us. A deposit of $50 per camper is required. The deposit can be submitted online via credit card with the scholarship forms or mailed with the completed forms to:

WHO CAN QUALIFY FOR A SCHOLARSHIP?

We consider a number of factors including, but not limited to, the number of children in the family and how many of them are attending Camp, all sources of income, assets and liabilities, other expenses such as mortgage or rent, automobiles, non-reimbursed medical expenses, etc. We also take into consideration any unexpected life situations that place financial stress on the family. Scholarship dollars are awarded based on family income and members in household in compliance with the National Poverty Guidelines.

Scholarships are awarded for a camper to attend one camp once a summer. More than one child in the family may be awarded a scholarship. New scholarship applications must be submitted annually.

WHAT ITEMS ARE REQUIRED OF ALL CAMPERSHIP APPLICANTS?

The following items are required for all Campership applicants to determine financial need:

  • Completed scholarship application (one per family). Extenuating circumstances may be taken into consideration. Please be sure to document them on the application.

  • A deposit of $50 per camper must be submitted with the scholarship application.

WHEN ARE FORMS DUE BACK TO CAMP?

Please return forms back to Sherman Lake YMCA as quickly as possible. Scholarship forms will be reviewed in the order they are received; please allow 2-3 weeks for processing. Scholarships will be given until available scholarship funds are exhausted. Families will be notified by email of the scholarship award.

CAN SCHOLARSHIPS BE RENEWED EACH YEAR?

Yes! We love having your child with us for the summer and know that the growth that happens at Camp is more pronounced each and every year. Families must apply each year they wish to be considered for assistance.

Camperships may be renewed subject to:

  • All fees and charges from years prior being paid in full
  • The parents completing supporting documents with current financial information

HOW MANY CAMPERS RECEIVE ASSISTANCE? HOW MUCH?

Last year, Camp offered approximately $75,000 in need-based camperships to campers attending our overnight, high school leadership development program, day and family camps.
