We have great availability for day groups wanting to get away from the office for a special meeting. Located just 20 minutes from downtown Kalamazoo or Battle Creek, Sherman Lake is convenient yet is truly a “change of pace.” We can plan fun activities such as a game of sand volleyball, basketball or a campfire complete with s’mores during or after your meeting, or add some fun waterfront activities. Team Building

WHAT IS TEAM BUILDING OR EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION?

Team building is one of the cornerstones of our philosophy here at the Sherman Lake YMCA Outdoor Center. We feel that it is important for every person who visits to have a team building experience whether it is a formal group session with one of our trained facilitators or just day-to-day interactions. Group or teamwork is a large part of every person’s life no matter what career path they choose to follow, how large a family they have, or what part of the world they live in. Our society is built on people working together to reach a common goal, and we at Sherman Lake try to give the participants in our programs the tools that they need to be successful working in any group.

A major focus of our team building program is on communication and individual interactions between people. Since this is one of the biggest parts of group work, the majority of our activities focus on how to treat other people and how to teach other people how you would like to be treated. Healthy relationships are a foundation for group progress. Everything that we live and speak and do at Sherman Lake YMCA is about Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility and how to have the best interactions that people can have in their life.

WHERE TO BEGIN

The first step in planning a program for your group is an initial consultation. The consultation will assess the group’s goals and objectives and determine what activities would be appropriate. Then we custom design a program to suit the groups needs. It may incorporate mixers and initiatives ranging from a series of ground initiatives, a low ropes experience to a high ropes course. These decisions are made after assessment of the groups needs and desired outcomes.

TEAMWORK GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

A group which works well as a team can be more successful in the work place or whatever the setting may be. This leads to a higher quality end product and happier, healthier team players which makes conflict resolution within the team much easier.
