Youth Lessons

An introduction to learning skills for confidence, safety and survival in and around the water. Parents are required to be in the water with their child. Intended for children 4 months to 2 1/2 years old. Children who are under three years of age or are not toilet trained are required to wear a swim diaper. Water exploration skills include:

  • Blow bubbles from mouth and nosse

  • Water exit and entry, assisted

  • Back and front float, assisted

  • Monkey crawl assisted

Preschool

Preschool - Beginner

Wednesdays: 5:30pm-6:00pm
Saturdays: 10:30am-11:00am

Swimmers will gain confidence in the water and learn basic strokes and skills. Intended for children ages 3-5 years old. Water acclimation skills include:

  • Submerge and exit water independently

  • Front glide, assisted, to wall, 5 feet

  • Jump, push, turn grab, assisted

  • Back float, front float and roll, assisted

  • Swim, float, swim for 10 yards, assisted

Preschool - Intermediate

Wednesdays: 6:00pm-6:30pm
Saturdays: 11:00am-11:30am

For swimmers who are well adjusted to the water and want more independence. Intended for children ages 3-5 years old. Water movement skills include:

  • Front glide, 10 feet

  • Back and front float, 20 seconds

  • Jump, push, turn grab

  • Tread water 10 seconds, near wall and exit

  • Swim, float, swim for 5 yards


Youth

For swimmers who are well adjusted to the water and want more independence. Intended for children ages 5-12 years old. Water movement skills include:

  • Back and front float, 20 seconds

  • Jump, push, turn grab

  • Tread water 10 seconds, near wall and exit

  • Swim, float swim for 5 yards

School Age - Intermediate
$56 (Y-Members) $84 (Community)
Wednesdays: 7:00pm-7:30pm
Saturdays: 12:00pm-12:30pm

For swimmers who are ready to develop strokes in deeper water. Intended for children ages 5-12 years old. Water stamina skills include:

  • Swim on front and back for 15 yards

  • Jump, swim, turn, swim, grab for 10 yards

  • Tread water for one minute and exit

  • Swim, float, swim for 25 yards

Youth Small Group or Private Swim Lessons: 

$60 (Y-Members) $80 (Community) (for a series of four lessons)
Private lessons are geared toward the individual goals of the swimmer, for beginners or experienced swimmers looking to increase efficiency in a particular stroke.  Private swim lessons are available to any individual or two individuals who live in the same household, must be 3 years of age, and toilet trained. Call 269-731-3032 for more information.

Water Aerobics

Free to Members 
This water class will allow participants the opportunity to both exercise aerobically and tone in the water. The class consists of 20 – 25 minutes of aerobic level workout followed by the use of resistance tools to tone and define muscles for the remaining 20 – 25 minutes of class. It is available for all levels of fitness. Those who need to avoid impact exercise may find particular value in this type of class. Some classes may be designated as Water Boot Camp. These classes will be more intense and involve lap swimming and anaerobic work.

Gentle Stretch 

Free to Members
This class is designed for individuals to move and stretch with the use of the water. Each participant will be able to work at their own pace. The water temp does vary although we try to keep it around 83 – 85 degrees. This class is conducted in the shallow end of pool.

Adult Swim Lessons

Adult Small Group Lessons
Swimming is a life skill as well as a great exercise and challenging sport. Our adult swim lessons provide instruction on water safety skills and will build on stroke technique and endurance while working on personal goals.

Class Dates: December 8, 2018 - February 9, 2019
Times: Saturdays, 9:10am-9:50am
Cost: $75 (Y-Members) $90 (Community)

CPR, AED & First Aid Classes

This is a one day, two-hour course. Upon completion, participants will receive a 2-year Basic Life Support (CPR/AED) and First Aid certification through the American Safety and Health Institute, as well as a PDF copy of both student handbooks.

Participants in classes need to be aware that there exists a risk in participating in any physical activity. It is suggested that all individuals consult their physician before beginning any fitness activities, particularly persons with any physical limitations or disabilities or who have been told by a physician to limit maximum heart rate, range of motion, blood pressure increase or other related issues.

All classes are subject to change without notice. Please check at the desk for availability. Classes must be attended regularly by an average of five people in order to continue. Classes with three or fewer participants may be cancelled at class time by the instructor.

All Water Fitness classes are intend for individuals 14 years and older. Children under the age of 14 may be permitted with the permission of the Aquatics Director and Instructor. Please call 731-3043 for class descriptions or information regarding the intensity or style of classes offered.
