Parent COVID-19 FAQ Sheet
Are you still planning on running summer camp 2020?
We know that this summer, children will need a Sherman Lake YMCA Camp experience more than ever. At this time, yes, we are moving towards summer camp programs to serve our community.
What are some of the things you are considering in the light of the novel coronavirus?
We are reviewing and updating our current health and safety procedures, brainstorming alternative programming options and monitoring our federal, state and local mandated parameters around offering programs this summer.
Tell me more about your timing on making a decision.
The American Camp Association, CDC and the YMCA of the USA are working together to provide some specific guidance for summer camps as we look to summer camp 2020. We are anticipating to have these guidelines by May 15. When we have had a chance to review them, we’ll be able to make an informed decision on plans for the summer and will share them with our families.
At a minimum, we aim to provide formal decisions for each week of camp 30 days prior to each session’s start date.
What if we would like to opt out of summer camp for our camper in 2020?
We understand that some of our families are considering or have already made the decision not to attend camp this summer due to the uncertainty with COVID-19. We are committed to working with you. Here are a few updates we have made to our cancellation policy:
Payments must be made 30 days prior to session beginning and cancellations must be made two weeks prior to the camp start date. If you are cancelling due to fear of the spread of COVID-19, you may choose what is best for your family (see options below) which may include a full refund, including deposit.
Preparations and expenses for summer camp occur long before the start of summer, with facility improvements, staff recruitment, hiring and more. We invite you to consider the option that best fits your family situation:
Donate all or a portion of your program fees to support Sherman Lake YMCA’s efforts in our community. At this time, we are providing critical relief programs through our feeding program, fresh food distribution and blood drives. Your donation would also relieve some of the financial strain due to the impact of COVID-19, maintaining smooth operations in the future.
Transfer your Summer 2020 registration and deposit (or just your deposit) to secure your spot for next year.
Donate your deposit and receive a refund of your remaining balance ($100 Overnight, $50 Day Camp).
Refund both your payment and deposit.
If you choose to cancel, please do so by emailing Kate Gould at registrar@ymcasl.org with your desired option so your cancellation may be processed.
What should we be doing right now?
You do not need to take any action. Please stay safe and well Sherman Lakers!
