Integrated Education Program Director

Under the supervision of the Director of Character Advancement, this position will provide on-call, on-site day and overnight support as needed for the Integrated Education program. The Integrated Education program works with approximately 50 local schools and serves more than 4,500 students each academic year. The program focus is the Sherman Lake YMCA “Camp to Classroom” philosophy, helping our partner schools to build character in their students and bring character development learned at camp back to their classroom. The program focuses on providing staff the necessary tools to build social emotional learning skills while focusing on 5 Adult Practice areas: emotion management, empathy, building relationships, personal development and responsibility. The incumbent must be able to role model honesty, caring, respect and responsibility not just to the youth in the program but to all staff, all guests and at all times either on or off camp property. This is central to our culture. We call this HCRR. Everyone involved in a Sherman Lake YMCA program will leave knowing what HCRR looks and sounds like through our staff role modeling these principles.

This job requires excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to manage multiple tasks and work with a variety of individuals is essential. Good interpersonal skills and willingness to be a team player is necessary. The incumbent will share as a member of the total staff of the YMCA, responsible for carrying out the mission and vision of the Sherman Lake YMCA. This position is a part of the program management team made up of the program and administrative staff, and will carry out his/her responsibilities in accordance with established operating policies and procedures of the YMCA, ACA, and county, state and federal agencies.

Description:

These are the principle activities of the I.E. Program Director and are not meant to be all inclusive. Other responsibilities, duties, and tasks can be assigned by the position’s supervisor and/or the CEO. It is the I.E. Program Director’s responsibility that the following takes place:

  • Serves as a Program Director for the Integrated Education (I.E.) Program.

  • Support summer day, overnight and high school leadership programs as needed.

  • Support retreat programs as needed.

  • Live in on-site residential program staff housing to provide 24 hour oversight for camp programs when scheduled.

  • Role model Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility.

Requirements:

Nature and Background of Position: The incumbent must possess a variety of skills to include character development, leadership development, group work, communication, program planning and management, fiscal control, promotion and public relations, administration, camp and the recruitment, training and evaluation of staff and volunteers. This position requires a basic understanding of the YMCA movement and the ability to role model the four principles of Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility (HCRR). This position is heavily weighted on the human relations side. It is necessary that the incumbent has a clear understanding of the relationship of the general public to the operation, of staff to volunteer, and of intra-staff actions. The incumbent must be able to delegate appropriate responsibilities involved in day-to-day operations.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, recreation and/or group work or its equivalent in academic preparation or experience.

  • At least two seasons or 16 weeks of administrative or supervisory experience in an organized camp.

Certifications:

  • Current certification in Basic Life Support, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen Administration from the American Red Cross or certification in Wilderness First Aid.

  • Current YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard certification.

  • Ability to obtain site specific high ropes training and a CDL driver’s license endorsement unless exempted by the Director of Character Advancement.

  • $35,568 annual salary
