Communications Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Communications Specialist’s charge is to provide a consistent voice for the Sherman Lake YMCA Outdoor Center. Through newsletters, social media, websites, and events, a successful Communications Specialist will amplify the community work we accomplish, as well as work to secure funds to ensure all have access to the programs we provide.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees marketing and internal/external communications schedule, budget, and implementation.
Oversees volunteer committees and activities, volunteer recruiting, recognition, and relations.Oversees, with the Director of Social Responsibility’s guidance, all community events held at Sherman Lake YMCA.
Oversees all social and online media. Maintains a strong online presence and positive community relations.
Directs all media relations. Writes news releases and acts as spokesperson as required.
Sends out member and staff newsletters as required.
Communicates job openings through various media outlets and social media sites.
Coordinates pre-camp email reminders with camp staff.
Attends all Board meetings and prepares the minutes.
Attends appropriate association meetings and report activities.
Assist with daily and monthly statistical reports, such as school camp, summer camp, membership, retreats, and fund development.
Assists the Administrative Office Manager in making sure all office machines are functioning or arrangements are made for repair. Purchases equipment related to communications, administration, and technology.
Participates in Administrative Team Meetings and Management Team Meetings.
Assume all supervisory and administrative support responsibilities assigned to the position.
Attend required abuse risk management training and adhere to policies related to high-risk activities and boundaries with consumers.
Report suspicious/inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of marketing and communications.
Knowledge of office management.
Knowledge of the use of computers and systems administration.
Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Degree in marketing/communications or related field preferred, but not required.
Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods and must be able to communicate using a computer and phone. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach and must be able to move around the work environment.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
COMPENSATION:
$17-22/hour (based on experience and other qualifications)
