Sherman Lake YMCA wins National Award

Sherman Lake YMCA Outdoor Center was selected by the American Camp Association for the Eleanor P. Eells Award for Program Excellence. Sherman Lake YMCA's Integrated Education program is the subject of this recognition of program excellence. Each year Sherman Lake YMCA helps 150 teachers, 50 schools, and 5,000 students put character back in the classroom through their exceptional Integrated Education program. The school year program incorporates the core values in experiences and lessons in which students and teachers participate during their camp visit. While including team building and outdoor learning, Sherman Lake keeps the focus on values, character and asset building.

The award, ACA's highest national program award, will be presented at the ACA National Conference in Dallas in February 2013. The Eleanor P. Eells Award honors programs that develop effective, creative responses to the needs of people or societal problems using the camp environment and programs that effectively demonstrate the positive contributions that camping has made to the well-being of individuals and society. Visit Sherman Lake YMCA Integrated Education Program to learn more details about their strong partnerships with schools and their unique relationship with local colleges that provide exceptional leaders for the program.
