2013 Summer Camp Staff

Job Description:

Sherman Lake YMCA Summer Camp seasonal staff positions - now recruiting!

Positions available:

  •  Summer Camp Counselors
    • Day Camp - 18 yrs and high school graduate
    • Resident Camp - 19 yrs and high school graduate + 1 year college or work

  • Lifeguards

  • Adventure Counselors -  Leads off-site excursions: Canoeing, Biking the Kal Haven trail - must be lifeguard certified, experienced, and minimum of 21 years of age.

  • Media Counselor - Serve as camp photographer and media marketer as well as develop and lead the specialty camp "Hot Off the Presses" where you will prepare a digital newsletter camp piece and photographs with campers.

  • Camp Health Officer - must be 21 years of age or older.

Room and Board Provided

Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years of age and graduate of high school (please see above for exceptions). Must love working with children and be able to serve as a professional role model, exhibiting the characteristics of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility. Certain leadership positions carry additional qualifications, such as age requirements and certifications.

Junior Counselor/Junior Wrangler applicants must have successfully completed the Sherman Lake YMCA Counselor-in-training program and be at least 16 years old. One of your references must come directly from the Leadership program director.

Varies dependent upon background and position.

Water Safety Instructor- Part-time

Job Description:

Responsible for delivering quality learn-to- swim programs based on the American Red Cross or YMCA standards of teaching.

Teach a variety of skill levels from Parent/Child courses, private and semi-private lessons, youth group lessons as well as adult learn to swim programs.

Enforce pool rules in a fair and consistent manner

Ensure safety of all participants and educate participants in general water safety

Submit lessons plans, attendance records, and skill check lists in a timely manner to Aquatics Director.

Must be available on nights and weekends especially Saturdays!

Any other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director

Qualifications:

Ability to demonstrate skills as required for class content and use teaching aids such as kick boards, diving rings, life jackets, etc.

Ability to work independently and possess energy and enthusiasm.

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (W.S.I.) certification or 3-5 years of experience.

CPR/AED and First Aid certifications from nationally recognized organization

Must be at least 18 years of age and graduate of high school.

Must love working with all ages and be able to serve as a professional role model, exhibiting the characteristics of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility.

Salary:

$10.00-$15.00 depending on experience and current certifications
Includes free membership to the Sherman Lake YMCA Outdoor Center.
