We had a fun-filled week with the Mattawan 6thgraders last week. Two groups of about 150 students came in to enjoy boating, dodgeball, swimming, archery, and a variety of other awesome activities. There were highlights from the week around every corner!
Boating in particular was lots of fun. The lake was finally warm enough to paddle around on! We set up canoes, kayaks, and row boats to teach some new and interesting skills. The sun was shining, the water was calm, and the laughs could be heard clearly across the water! To top it off, a couple students came across this beautiful baby map turtle!
Each group played some incredibly fun games of Capture the Pig to end their time. Thanks to the sheer numbers, we watched in awe as four separate teams competed to bring home the bacon! The controlled chaos brought about by the set up was a great opportunity for all of us to practice what we had learned about honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility. I can’t even mention how many instances I saw of caring individuals helping each other up or responsible campers being fantastic role models for each other.
Thanks for coming out, Mattawan! Hopefully we’ll see you this summer!
