Aquatic Classes

Adult Fitness Classes


Water AerobicsGentle Joggers: Free to Y-Members, TBD
Gentle-Joggers class, is a thirty minute class that takes place in the deep end of the pool. Using Aqua-joggers (floatation belts), the group will work on cardio, resistance training and a variety of other workouts using the aqua joggers. This class is ideal for anyone who has had back or knee problems, it’s a great low-impact way to re-cover faster after an injury or surgery.  Please click here for more information about aqua joggers.

Water Aerobics: Free to Members: Mon-Wed-Fri from 8:00 – 8:50 am; Tue-Thu from 6:00 – 6:50 pm; and Saturday from 8:15 – 9:05 am
This water class will allow participants the opportunity to both exercise aerobically and tone in the water. The class consists of 20 – 25 minutes of aerobic level workout followed by the use of resistance tools to tone and define muscles for the remaining 20 – 25 minutes of class. It is available for all levels of fitness. Those who need to avoid impact exercise may find particular value in this type of class. Some classes may be designated as Water Boot Camp. These classes will be more intense and involve lap swimming and anaerobic work.

Gentle Stretch: Free to Members: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 – 8:45 am
This class is designed for individuals to move and stretch with the use of the water. Each participant will be able to work at their own pace. The water temp does vary although we try to keep it around 83 – 85 degrees. This class is conducted in the shallow end of pool.

Adult Lessons

Adult Beginner Swim Program: $48.00-Y-Members; $78.00-Community
Adult Beginner Swim Program- Starts with the basics of swimming, students will learn how to float, glide, begin breath control, proper flutter kicking, and basic Front Crawl (freestyle) skills. Pre-registration is required,class is limited to 6 (six) participants.  Call 269-731-3032 for more information.

Adult Advanced Swim Program: $48.00-Y-Members, $78.00 Community
Adult Advanced Swim Program- For the swimmers that are looking to refine your freestyle, and backstrokes. Improve overall balance and technique, learn ways to reduce drag and be introduced to new types of work-outs. Pre-registration is required, class is limited to 6 (six) participants. American Red Cross Courses

Lifeguard Training:

$150.00 (Y-Members) $200.00 (Community)

American Red Cross Lifeguard training course: Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for lifeguards, First Aid, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Blood Borne Pathogens. Pre-requisite Swim test- 300 yards of contiunous swimming using freestyle and breastroke only, two minutes of legs only treading and swim 15 yards retrieve a 10lb brick from 7-`10feet of water and swim back to starting point in under one minute thurty seconds.Must be 15 years old.

(Must attend all three days and pass pre-requisite swim)

Pre-requisite: Must be 15 years old and able to pass swim test on first day of class.

CPR/AED & First Aid:

Upon completion of this course, participants will receive a 2-year Basic Life Support (CPR/AED) and First Aid Certification through the American Safety and Health Institute.

Widlerness and Remote First Aid:

American Red Cross Course- Remote and Widlerness First Aid. This course will cover how to deal with situations when help is delayed such as a remote camping situatuion. Special situations regarding altitude  sickenss
and other topics covered. This is a two year certification. Minimum age is 14 years and must have current Adult CPR/AED First aid certifcation.

Youth Lessons

Swim Lessons

Parent/Child : $56 (Y-Members) $84 (Community)
An introduction to learning skills for confidence, safety and survival in and around the water. Parents are required to be in the water with the child. Intended for children 6 months to 23 months old. Children who are under three years of age or are not toilet trained are required to wear a swim diaper.

Parent/Child II: $56 (Y-Members) $84 (Community)
A transition class to the Preschool program. Swimmers learn basic strokes and skills. A parent/guardian is required in the water for the entire class time. Intended for children 2-3 years old. Any child that is not toilet trained must wear a swim diaper.

Preschool I: $56 (Y-Members) $84 (Community)
Swimmers will gain confidence in the water and learn basic strokes and skills. Prerequisites include:

  • Face up to ears in water for 3 seconds
  • Front and back float (with assistance) for 10 seconds
  • Swim 5 yards on front or back with floatation

Preschool II: $56 (Y-Members) $84 (Community)
For swimmers who are well adjusted to the water and want more independence. Prerequisites include:

  • Preschool I (or ability to perform the following skills)
  • Front and back float (no assistance) for 3-5 seconds
  • Swim 10 yards on front and back with floatation
  • Swim 2 yards on front with face in water and 2 yards on back (no floatation)

Preschool III:  $56 (Y-Members) $84 (Community)
For swimmers who are ready to further develop their strokes. Includes an introduction to the breaststroke, butterfly and rescue skills.  Prerequisites include:

  • Preschool II (or ability to perform the following skills)
  • Front and back float for 10 seconds without floatation and recover to a stand
  • Swim 10 yards on front and back with floatation
  • Swim 5 yards on front and back without floatation
  • 5 underwater bobs

Youth I: $56 (Y-Members) $84 (Community)
For swimmers who are well adjusted to the water and want more independence. Prerequisites include:

  • Preschool I (or ability to perform the following skills)
  • Front and back float (no assistance) for 3-5 seconds
  • Swim 10 yards on front and back with floatation
  • Swim 2 yards on front with face in water and 2 yards on back (no floatation)

Youth II: $56 (Y-Members) $84 (Community)
For swimmers who are ready to develop strokes in deeper water. Prerequisites include:

  • Youth I (or ability to perform the following skills)
  • Front and back alternating paddle 20 feet
  • Front and back symmetrical paddle 20 feet
  • Tread water 10 seconds
  • Perform front and back glides
  • Jump into deep water and recover to wall.

Youth III: $56 (Y-Members) $84 (Community)
Swimmers will refine crawl strokes and strengthen skills. Prerequisites include:

  • Youth II (or ability to perform the following skills)
  • Front and back float 30 seconds
  • Front alternating paddle with flip on back for breath 25 yards
  • Front and back symmetrical paddle 25 yards

Youth IV: $56 (Y-Members) $84 (Community)
Swimmers gain endurance and practice advanced strokes. Prerequisites include:

  • Youth III (or ability to perform the following skills)
  • Front and back crawl 25 yards
  • Front and back flutter kick 25 yards
  • Whip kick 15 yards
  • Scissor kick 25 yards
  • Perform breaststroke arm pulls 15 yards
  • Tread water 40 seconds

Youth V: $56 (Y-Members) $84 (Community)
Swimmers work on stroke development and more advanced skills while increasing distance, speed and endurance. Prerequisites include:

  • Youth IV (or ability to perform the following skills)
  • Front and back crawl 50 yards
  • Breaststroke 25 yards
  • Sidestroke 25 yards
  • Dolphin kick 25 yards
  • Tread water 3 minutes

Create-a-Class: Choose your own dates and times; $7 (Y-Members) $10 (Community) fees are per student per 30 minutes lesson
Create-a-Class gives you the convenience of creating your own swim lesson program.  How it works: You gather up three or more of your  friends who are close to you in swimming ability, contact Katie Bean (269-731-3043) and she will work with you to schedule a series of 4, 6, or 8 week sessions for your group.  Minimum of 4 participants, with a maximum of 8 participants. Must pay in advance to hold time slots, no refunds, credits, or make-ups permitted unless the classes are canceled by the Aquatics Director.

Private Swim Lessons: $90 (Y-Members) $120 (Community) (for a series of six lessons) ($15/$20 per 30 minute lesson)
Private lessons are geared toward the individual goals of the swimmer, for beginners or experienced swimmers looking to increase efficiency in a particular stroke.  Private swim lessons are available to any individual or two individuals who live in the same household, must be 3 years of age, and toilet trained.  Click here to register, or call 269-731-3032

Participants in classes need to be aware that there exists a risk in participating in any physical activity. It is suggested that all individuals consult their physician before beginning any fitness activities, particularly persons with any physical limitations or disabilities or who have been told by a physician to limit maximum heart rate, range of motion, blood pressure increase or other related issues.

All classes are subject to change without notice. Please check at the desk for availability. Classes must be attended regularly by an average of five people in order to continue. Classes with three or fewer participants may be cancelled at class time by the instructor.

All Water Fitness classes are intend for individuals 14 years and older. Children under the age of 14 may be permitted with the permission of the Aquatics Director and Instructor. Please call 731-3043 for class descriptions or information regarding the intensity or style of classes offered.
